HYBRID was founded in 2008 by independent producers Barry Barnholtz and Jeffrey Schenck. Prior to starting HYBRID, Barnholtz was a former founding partner in TRIMARK Entertainment then went on to launch his own successful DVD label, BARNHOLTZ ENTERTAINMENT which has a distribution deal with LIONSGATE, GAIAM-VIVENDI ENTERTAINMENT, and E-1. Schenck was the president of REGENT Entertainment and, over thirteen years with the company, had been involved with over fifty movies from conception to completion. His professional roots are also strongly intertwined with his personal history. His family was involved in the origins of the motion picture business, including the founding and management of MGM and Fox.
In June 2008, HYBRID hired Peter Sullivan as the Vice President. In addition to over fourteen produced screenplays for producers such as New Line Cinema, Regent and Cinetel Pictures, Sullivan also spent years in development, working for Wilshire Court Productions, Landscape Entertainment, Artisan Television and Hearst Entertainment.
Since its conception in early 2008, HYBRID has produced 25 films and counting. Their first picture, A CHRISTMAS PROPOSAL starring Nicole Eggert, David O'Donnell and Tom Arnold, premiered on LIFETIME and scored one of their highest ratings of the season. Since then, the company has launched a series of family movies such as THE DOG WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS, THE DOG WHO SAVED CHRISTMAS VACATION, THE DOG WHO SAVED HALLOWEEN and THE DOG WHO SAVED THE HOLIDAYS. The first movie premiered simultaneously on ABC FAMILY (which scored their highest rating of the season, and was a huge success on DVD for Anchor Bay Entertainment.) HYBRID has also made several thrillers for LIFETIME including ABANDONED (starring the late BRITTANY MURPHY and PETER BOGDANOVICH) and STOLEN CHILD (starring EMMANUELLE VAUGIER, CORBIN BERNSEN and TICHINA ARNOLD). Recently, HYBRID produced WYATT’S EARP’S REVENGE for SONY starring VAL KILMER and TRACE ADKINS and HATFIELDS & MCCOYS: BAD BLOOD starring CHRISTIAN SLATER, PERRY KING and JEFF FAHEY for LIONSGATE. The company also produced the SYFY ORIGINAL MOVIE, JERSEY SHORE SHARK ATTACK which was being promoted as one of their highly anticipated pictures of the season. In addition, last year’s (2012) Holiday TV movie circuit was dominated by Hybrid’s films with over 40 time slots from Thanksgiving until the New Year airing on ION, LIFETIME, and HALLMARK networks.
HYBRID is looking forward to creating more family fare along with Westerns and Thrillers. Their latest Thriller, SUMMONED (starring Academy Award winner CUBA GOODING, JR., ASHLEY SCOTT, and BAILEY CHASE) is scheduled to be released through LIONSGATE and will be a LIFETIME television premiere.
